MOUNTAINS — ‘Happy’ or ‘Sad’, A perspective.

Mountains, like all of nature, reflect the emotions we project onto them. Their soaring heights and enduring strength inspire awe and a sense of joy, resilience, and timeless wisdom. On the other hand, their silent solitude and weather-worn peaks may evoke a sense of melancholy, carrying the weight of time and the whispers of ancient stories.

Mountains are poetry, mountains are passion, and they are life’s philosophy.

Perhaps mountains are neither happy nor sad—they exist as silent witnesses to the flow of life, holding space for us to find meaning in their presence. Poets and artists have drawn different meanings from these hushed erections, suiting their moods, whims and perceptions.

Happiness and sadness are two sides of human emotion and perception. Depending on their moods and mental status, two individuals may react differently to a situation or scenario. The truth can sometimes be misleading, as people see what they want. One’s opinions, realities, and perceptions shouldn’t be confused with ‘Facts’ or ‘Truths.’

Looking at Leh’s majestic, snow-capped, barren mountains, one person exclaimed, ‘ Oh my God, they look so gorgeous and enthralling.’ Others lamented, ‘Oh dear, these mountains look so sad and desolate.’

Life and mountains share profound similarities, symbolising resilience, challenge, and growth. Just as one tackles peaks and verticals in life, taking every step toward the summit mirrors the efforts to overcome personal and professional obstacles. This parallel journey of personal growth and mountain climbing is not just a reflection but an inspiration to keep pushing forward.

The journey of climbing a mountain is a metaphor for life’s emotional ups and downs. The arduous climb represents our challenges, while the spectacular view from the top symbolises moments of joy and triumph. Just as in life, we can’t stay at a peak forever, and we must return to the valley, our baseline, to appreciate the highs and lows of our experiences.

‘In deep sadness, there is no place for sentimentality. It is as final as the factual mountains. There it is; when you realise it, you cannot complain.’

Driving through the stony tracks of Changala Pass, my emotional furnace ignited, and I cried as my spirits soured, drawing the joy of being in the womb of stark enormity. I discovered life’s meaning and the philosophy of existence were minuscule. I was not in the mountains; the mountain was growing within me, shaping my perspective and emotions and transforming me.

How can mountains be sad when they offer life’s most valuable lessons? They hold secrets and knowledge that may take time and hard work to comprehend. Still, if you persist without compromising diligence, you may find the strength to rise and reach the top, a testament to the power of determination and resilience.

Relationships are like scaling a mountain—the more you know, the less you fear losing them. But sustaining a relationship at its pinnacle takes effort, dedication, and commitment –

*Preparation is the key –Relationships require trust, communication, and mutual respect as foundation tools, such as the gears for scaling mountain peaks.

*Efforts and Endurance – Like relationships, patience, effort, and resilience through tough times are needed to tackle the mountain’s steep inclines and rough paths.

*Unconditional support – Both partners must support and uplift each other to scale new heights.

*Positive perspective and mutual admiration – Enjoy the shared moments, the laughter, and the struggles along the journey. This ensures a perfect bonding, and the shared achievements and love feel extraordinary.

As a young person, one is friendly and adorable to everyone, eager to explore and conquer new challenges, like climbing a mountain. The older we get, the fewer the cliffs. Instead of scaling them, we enjoy their distant beauty by photographing them sitting at the bottom. Our perspective changes from slogging to overcoming the challenges to appreciating the unfolding of life’s unseen patterns, which nurtures our character and soul.

“Getting to the top is Optional – Getting down is Mandatory.”

Mountains and Intimacy share a profound connection rooted in their ability to evoke admiration, inspire reflection, and form deep bonds of closeness. The quiet and serene environment in the mountains helps to escape the distractions of daily life. It fosters deep conversations and genuine connections, creating an ideal setting for closeness and emotional familiarity. Mountains symbolise strength and endurance, and being in their presence encourages introspection and vulnerability, boosting emotional intimacy.

There is always a path at the top that is not visible from the valley. When you climb a hill, don’t show the world—but do it because you want to see the world.

“There may not be Wi-Fi in the mountains, but you will find a better connection – to your inner self – in your soul.”

  1. Hello Doctor
You have written beautifully as usual.
I too have been to Ladhak , those barren colourful magnanimous mountains in Ladhak just soaked me in an inner delight, so abstract but left me blissful. Now when I read your description of this place you gave words to that feeling,” it was the connect with the soul”. The soul that is immortal in the mortals and possessed of the truth that is the God established inwardly, that gets high uplifted , when we see nothing else around but only mountains no distractions. Finding them sad and desolate is a misleading emotion that will only keep us away from enjoying the beauty and losing the bliss of the connect too.
I agree with you, mountains are indeed life’s philosophy, they tell us that there is still some growing to do, awakening somethings that are dead inside. Yeah, silently it makes us do some deep thinking.
So much happens within, no wonder I came back with a hangover , longing to go back again.

      Hi RG
you have shared the exact emotion, that I felt. Leh is mesmerising and I too feel that there was a connection that I want to explore that place again and again. I came back but a major part of me is left behind. I mentioned it in my story on Youtube too. You are lucky to be surrounded by mountains. I envy you.
Thanks for your brilliant analysis and feedback.
      regards
