Remember the times when the board exams had categories like 1st, 2nd and 3rd division. Then there used to be Distinction ,,75% in a subject.
I remember of getting 76% in my UP Board, Intermediate exam and topping the entire District.
Today’s generation will laugh at this result.
They talk of 499 out of 500. And the topper gets depressed for not securing that one mark.
The news paper is smeared with pictures of children securing more than 90%.
My sincere congratulations to this brilliant breed.
BUT, I am perplexed.
where is the standard going.?
Was the education system defective in our times and produced nerds and morons like us who would swell their 56inch ‘seena’ by getting first division with just 60% marks.
OR,
We are feeding a breed of Albert Einstein s and Curies who score nothing but 100% ,even in language subjects.
It scares me and bothers me.
I am waiting for the days when the scores will reach grotesque proportions like 600 out of 500.
Who will , and what will decide when five hundred students with 100% marks will fight for ONE seat.
What to blame.. the education system?
Is it wise to falsely inflate the minds of students with a hundred percentile in the 10th and 12th boards , when they have to face the actual music while apperaing for the National and International competitions which are atrociously ruthless and difficult.
Ain’t we taking away the fighting spirit from them?
